People smoke many cigarettes every day. Active anti-smoking campaigns do not influence sufficiently people who love smoking and the soothing effect that it provides. Many people who are smoking understand that according to the medical facts smoking does not provide any calming effect. Instead, cigarettes contain damaging substances. But, this information does not prevent them from smoking. Famous and the world known company that manufactures many various cigarettes is Philip Morris. This tobacco company was founded in 1847 by Philip Morris, British cigarettes importer, who opened his first shop in London. First cigarettes manufactured by his company appeared in 1854 and in 1902 his tobacco company conquered the United States market. In 1920’s Philip Morris began to manufacture cigarettes in Richmond, on a factory that it has bought. In 1940’s this tobacco company began the process of integration, 30 years earlier than government requested.

Popular cigarettes, which are smoked by millions of people, Marlboro, were first manufactured by Philip Morris in 1924 and were advertised as the cigarettes for women. Marlboro cigarettes for women had red ribbon on their tips, to hide the traces of lipstick. These cigarettes had “Mild as May” as a slogan. Unfortunately, women orientation did not bring much success, therefore in 1954 these cigarettes began to be advertised as cigarettes for men. Marvelous advertisers thought on the ad campaigns and, the cowboy character has been created. He instantly conquered the hearts of men and women, enormously increasing the demand for Marlboro cigarettes.

Today, Philip Morris’s tobacco company is known in the world for its motorsport sponsorship, especially Formula One. This tobacco company is distinctive namely because of their advertising campaigns – TV, radio, film industry, billboards and many other ways of advertising were used to attract more buyers and the increase their demand in the offered product. Particular place in advertising belongs to the Marlboro Miles. It was a great advertising move and splendid idea, which considerably increased the demand of various types of Marlboro cigarettes. People collected the little liners with points, included in the boxes and were able to choose an item from the Marlboro Miles catalogue (lighters, T-shirts and many other things).

Today, there exist great amount of Marlboro cigarettes’ types. Menthol, Gold series are just some of them. In several years the demand in Marlboro cigarettes only increased. Despite the active antismoking campaign Marlboro cigarettes are loved and appreciated.

But, Marlboro is not the only brand of cigarettes, manufactured by Philip Morris. This tobacco company offers such beloved and popular brands as Parliament, Muratti and many others. Due to the increasing demand in the flavored cigarettes Philip Morris develops new blends and brands. New technology is constantly used for the manufacturing of cigarettes. For example, nowadays, Philip Morris launched the new Marlboro Blue Ice and Marlboro Blue Fresh lines. These menthol cigarettes contain a capsule of liquid Menthol in the filter, which soon after being crushed gives fresh and soothing minty flavor.
